That said, there are some awesome LGBTQ+ anime couples that serve as positive representations of their respective communities. Some of these couples are the main characters in their own gay anime shows, whereas some are featured in series that aren't inherently LGBTQ anime.

These couples are a big step in the right direction, each slowly but surely helping to normalize LGBTQ+ romance in anime and breaking away from the problematic tropes of the past.
